What’s in a food parcel?

Our foodbank provides three days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food.

The Trussell Trust has worked with nutritionists to ensure food parcels contains sufficient nutrition for at least three days worth of healthy, balanced meals for individuals and families.

A typical food parcel includes:

  • Baked beans/spaghetti in sauce
  • Biscuits
  • Breakfast cereals
  • Tinned fish
  • Tinned fruit
  • Instant mash
  • Fruit juice (carton)
  • Tinned meat/vegetarian
  • Milk (UHT)
  • Pasta/rice/noodles
  • Rice pudding/custard
  • Soup (can/packet)
  • Sponge pudding
  • Tea/coffee
  • Tinned tomatoes/pasta sauce
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Jam/marmalade

Treats (as available)

  • Chocolate
  • Toiletries
  • Baby foods etc.
  • Cat/dog food

Dietary requirements

Our foodbank can usually adapt your food parcel to meet your dietary needs, for example, gluten free, halal or vegetarian. When you arrive at the foodbank centre, a volunteer will chat to you about an special dietary requirements you may have.

Beyond the Box is a free online resource that will help with ideas for how to make the best use of the food from your Foodbank parcel. You’ll find recipes, and how to cook them using a hob or a microwave with very little extra kitchen equipment.
