Record year for the Trussell Trust

22nd April 2021

The Trussell Trust, our parent charity, has announced that more than 2.5 million food parcels were issued by our network of food banks last year.

Food banks in our network experienced a 33% increase in need during the past extraordinarily difficult year (April 2020-March 2021) – with a 36% rise in parcels given for children compared with 2019/20.

And the Trust has warned that with need for emergency food increasing year-on-year, the figures highlight an alarming 128% rise compared to this time five years ago. It is also the first time the number of food parcels distributed has topped two million.

It’s a trend being experienced by foodbanks up and down the country. In Crowborough the number of people we have supported has risen from 514 in our first year in 2014, to 2,519 in 2020.
