1,000 meals for families in need

9th August 2016

Food donated by local shoppers during the three-day Tesco Neighbourhood Collection will provide almost 1,000 meals for families in crisis.

Our Foodbank volunteers were out in force at the Crowborough Tesco branch in Sybron Way on the weekend of 1st-3rd July to staff the collection point for the collection.

“Hundreds of customers took our leaflets,” said Warehouse Manager John Alexander, “and in response bought extra tins, jars and packets to put in our trollies – some bringing back one or even two extra carrier bags full of food! A very big thank to them all and to the very helpful staff at Tesco.”

Run each year in conjunction with The Trussell Trust, more than 200,000 volunteers took part in the event across the country, collecting essential provisions for those struggling with a sudden crisis.

Our own volunteers collected 763 kilos of food, which amounts to approximately 978 meals, all now safely stored by our warehouse team, to be used for our own distribution centre and those other foodbanks we support in places where the need is greater than our own.

The town’s supermarkets are central to our success in providing essential supplies to those in desperate need.  Waitrose, Morrison’s and Tesco all make regular contributions in some way and we are sincerely grateful for their support.
